##If you live in an area where there is a risk of tornadoes like Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and other places across the Deep South such as Florida here is some good advice for how to survive a tornado You should always try to take cover when warned about an incoming tornado. If you find yourself in a building or a car, take cover in a closet or a bathroom. If the tornado is approaching, the best thing to do is to get away from windows and outside walls. Go to an interior room on the lowest floor, away from windows. Tornadoes can pick up metal items such as aluminum or iron pipes and throw them at large distances. So if you are in an area with metal structures around, then try to get under metal sheets such as plywood or tin roofs. Beds should be well reinforced with steel rods because these objects can survive being thrown around by tornadoes and may serve as a good shelter in the case of a tornado. Tornadoes can destroy poorly constructed homes or buildings. If you are in a mobile home, it is safer to leave and find shelter elsewhere. In other kind of flimsy house it would be better to avoid areas with weak foundations, such as near the edges of lakes, old quarries, and hillsides where landslides may occur. You can also take cover under a sturdy table or other piece of furniture that has a large amount of mass. In a car, stop at a place that has a strong building close by and also park your car facing away from the direction of the tornado. If the tornado is following you, you should try to go to a low-lying area. You should also try to turn off your car or the hazard lights. When it comes to water, don't drink any water in a glass bottle because this will stop you from breathing. The only safe water in a glass bottle is boiled water but don't drink straight from it because this second rate method of drinking may be poisonous. Use bottled mineral or spring water for drinking purposes. While in a tornado, stick together with family members and friends.
Once you are at the far end of the field, you may be safe until the tornado dissipates, but do not stay too long. Tornadoes can last for hours and it is better to leave once you are sure that the tornado has gone. You should also leave any motor vehicles behind or in a garage. If your car has no gas in it, get out of it immediately so that it does not get damaged by flying debris caught up in tornadoes. Before leaving your vehicle, ensure that your cell phone works. If so, use this to call the authorities to inform them of your location.
